Focalin Generic (dexmethylphenidate)
Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is a mild stimulant to the central nervous system. It affects chemicals in the brain that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Available in  5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 25mg, 30mg, 35mg, 40mg; ext-rel caps (contains immediate-release + e-c del-rel beads). It is a prescription medicine used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Warning of Focalin GenericÂ
High potential for abuse and dependence; monitor. Increased risk of sudden death, stroke, and MI; assess for presence of cardiac disease before initiating. Avoid in known structural cardiac abnormalities, cardiomyopathy, serious arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and other cardiac problems. Pre-existing psychotic disorder. Bipolar disorder. Screen for risk factors of developing a manic episode prior to initiation. Consider discontinuing if new psychotic/manic symptoms occur. Peripheral vasculopathy, including Raynaud’s Phenomenon; monitor for digital changes. Monitor growth (esp. children), BP, HR. Reduce dose or discontinue if paradoxical aggravation of symptoms occur. Reevaluate periodically. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers: monitor infants.
How to use Focalin Generic (dexmethylphenidate)
Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start taking dexmethylphenidate and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning, with or without food. Taking this medication late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia).
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor may direct you to gradually increase or decrease your dose. Also, if you have used it for a long time, do not suddenly stop using this drug without consulting your doctor.
What happens if I overdose?
Overdose symptoms may include dry mouth, vomiting, agitation,
tremor,
muscle twitches,
confusion,
hallucinations,
dilated pupils,
muscle pain or weakness,
fever, sweating,
headache and other symptoms
